Balancing the Tradeoffs between Query Delay and Data Availability in MANETs – projects 2012

In mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs), nodes move freely and link/node failures are common, which leads to frequent network partitions. When a network partition occurs, mobile nodes in one partition are not able to access data hosted by nodes in other partitions, and hence significantly degrade the performance of data access. To deal with this problem, we apply data replication techniques. Existing data replication solutions in both wired and wireless networks aim at either reducing the query delay or improving the data availability, but not both. As both metrics are important for mobile nodes, we propose schemes to balance the tradeoffs between data availability and query delay under different system settings and requirements. Extensive simulation results show that the proposed schemes can achieve a balance between these two metrics and provide satisfying system performance.
In this application, we try to implement MANET network with low tradeoff and high data availability. We use Mysql 5.0 as database for this application. We are going to develop this network in Java Swing for which JDK 1.6 or higher version can be used. Socket connection will be established between the server, router and nodes. Number of node in the network can be any as of our interest. Nodes must be created with unique identity, must specify the region it is location eg. Region1, region2. Data availability can be ensured by replicating data item locally. Query delay can be reduced by replicating data item in neighbor nodes.
The work has to be implemented in four different algorithms. 1) Greedy data replication scheme 2)The one-to-one optimization scheme 3) the reliable neighbor scheme and 4) the reliable grouping scheme. Data replication is handled all these four cases. The user can rise a query in a given node, the node search for the query reply in its own database, if not available it goes to the server and get the query reply. The replication scheme enhances the data availability in near by nodes, thus the query delay is reduced and data availability is increased.
